Writer's picture: I LOVE MY TESTIMONYI LOVE MY TESTIMONY

Hi, I’m Larry Weathers. My testimony is, I am a survivor of a massive heart attack. Sunday, October 23, 2022, I had just concluded preaching. Shortly afterwards, I sat down to eat lunch as was my custom. I suddenly felt immense pressure in my chest, disorientation, and shortness of breath. Alarmed, I yelled out, “Something isn’t right, “I CAN’T BREATHE!” I tried stepping outside for air, but the pressure and pain intensified. A 911 was made. As I sat on the couch, faint and desperately trying to breath, I remember whispering, “Jesus, I don’t want to die, not like this.”

I heard sirens growing louder. Paramedics arrived, shoved some pills into my mouth, while connecting to me an EKG machine which confirmed I was having a heart attack. They quickly put me on a stretcher and rushed me into the ambulance, where a first responder declared it a full STEMI (massive heart attack). She called the ER, telling them to prepare for emergency surgery. With tears in my eyes, I asked her, “Am I going to live?” I don’t recall her answer. Everything slowed as fear gripped me and that’s all I can remember. I was told later I had passed out.

I woke up after surgery and my cardiologist gravely told me, “Mr. Weathers, if you had arrived 2 minutes longer, we would be planning your funeral.” Tears filled my eyes as I processed how close to death I was-two minutes. That singular event, has reshaped my entire life. While I endured several following health scares, significant other challenges, including divorce, I immensely grateful to God for life and His faithfulness toward me.

In the game of American football, the two-minute warning signals the game’s end. That was my moment. But God intervened and declared, “Overtime.”
